Continuing the Never Ending Saga of Cancer Man

When I left off a month ago (hey, only a month! that's improvement) we were going to head out to the Big City Cancer Hospital for the bronchoscopy.  Well, he didn't have the bronchoscopy that day, things had to drag on and on and on.

Fast forward to Tuesday, September 13.

Bronschscopy Day!

The doctor said his tubes looked a little beat up but he thought it was a side effect of radiation.  He also thought the fact that his right bronchus was super swollen was also radiation.  I thought this sounded like crap.  I know radiation has long term side effects but he had his last radiation more than a year ago- why would it start swelling now when it never did before?  The doctor said he didn't see any cancer "hanging off of anything" (yes, direct quote) but would have biopsy results by Friday.  We left happy-ish.

Thursday evening, September 15

Phone rings.  Big Guy answers.
"Hello, Dr. K"
Listen, uh huh, ok, red face, listen, ok, right.  Thanks. Bye.
It's all cancer.

Tuesday, September 20

Big Guy to BCCH for a few tests and another doctor visit.  By himself.  Because I have to work because we need the money.  Yes, he is a big boy and can handle talking to doctors.  But he has a way of forgetting to tell me somethings and I can think of questions to ask faster than he can.  But we need a roof and these kids have grown accustomed to eating.

Bottom line- they have to take his entire right lung out.  It's his best chance for survival.  The cancer will eventually close off the lung anyway.  You can't just leave it in there.

This morning he had an MRI of the brain to make sure there is no cancer there.

Tomorrow he has an appointment with a cardiologist to arrange pre-surgery testing to see is his heart can handle surgery.

Tuesday we go back to BCCH to meet with the surgeons.  We'll know more than.

This is exhausting.

I'm praying too.

Yes, it is exhausting....especially since the doctors aren't on the same time-line as you.
