I had the second interview this morning. I don't feel as optimistic as I did last week. They had two, yeah a whole two, questions for me. One was a procedural question so, no problem. It was the other question I wasn't too thrilled with.
"You have a family?" (Make that two questions.)
"Will that interfere with your job, your child care and all?"
Is it me or is that a WTF question? Legally, I don't think they can ask about family but when one is in need of a job...
Would they have asked a man that question?
How did they think I would answer, "Well hell, my babysitter calls out at the last minute at least twice a week and I have no Plan B. Yeah, if you hire me you're pretty much screwed."
Come on! You have my resume right in front of you, you have a glowing recommendation from my boss of twelve damn years. I am a knowledgeable, professional person and you ask me a dumb question like that??
For the record, I have excellent child care with two back ups. In the last ten years I have missed work one time due to child care issues.
I think I may be cruising the unemployment line a bit longer what with that whole mother thing I've got going on.

Legally, I don't think they CAN ask that question. In this job market though, people are asking a LOT of illegal questions and getting away with it.
That would not give me a good vibe either!
Good luck! I think they were wrong to ask that!
I've been asked questions before that weren't allowed to be asked and I usually pick them up on that.
Hang in there though, the right thing will come along :D
hugs, gcgal
In the UK they would probably take you to tribunal if that question was asked and you didn't get the job on grounds of discrimination.
UHMMM I do believe that would be a question that is not proper to ask.. well if this does not work out there is better out there for you I am sure..
Unbelievable! Hell yes, that was illegal. What did you say? I think I would have just looked at them and not answered the question, then changed the subject.
One day in 10 years, that's incredible!
That is not legal, but sadly, people get away with statements just like it. I wish you the best.
They definitely are not supposed to ask that question. I am suspicious of businesses that have second interviews for the heck of it. Unfortunately, in today's market sometimes the interviewers hold all the cards. I wish you well with the job search. If this one works out, I hope that they pay you lots of money.
So incredibly illegal! I would have called them on that one for sure (good way to make sure I don't get the job).
No way is that question legal. I don't even think they can ask you if your married. I wonder if there is a number somewhere that you can call to report them.
If they are asking that type of questions - that might not be a place you want to be working.
Legally? No, they can't ask that question. Just like they can't ask if you're gay, straight or bi. I know it's a job and all, but I may be cruising the unemployment line a bit longer, too :)
No, no, NO. They cannot ask that!
