Fun Monday-Memories

Molly is this week's Fun Monday hostess. Her challenge is:

For your assignment tell us about a happy memory from your childhood. If you have pictures, please show us your pictures.

Some of my greatest childhood memories involve my Nannie. That's her on the motorcycle. I've used this picture before but it is one of my favorites so I'm using it again!

I spent a great deal of time with my grandmother when I was a child. What was supposed to have been an overnight visit would stretch to a week! Nannie passed along some great things to me:
a love of garage sales and the occasional garbage picking!

taking photos. She literally had Hefty bags filled with pictures. We spent one summer going through them trying to figure out who the hell these people are!

Family. Past and present. My grandmother gave me my love of family history. She had so much memorabilia it was fabulous

Why this headstone? (Yes, I take pictures in cemeteries.) John and Flora were my grandmother's grandparents. Aurie was her aunt. She died young (obviously). My Nannie gave me Aurie's old autograph books. They were signed by her grandparents (who were my great great great grandparents) aunts, uncles, friend, etc. They are among some of my most treasured possessions.

I remember spending long hours with Nannie working on our family tree and history. She would be so jazzed by all the internet resources there are now. What started as a summer project has now turned into one of my biggest hobbies. I have one branch of my family traced back to the 1500's.

The baby is crying so I've got to cut this short. Go check out other memories!

Thank you for sharing your happy memory for this Fun Monday. Your grandmother is so lovely. Not only do you have your own fond memories, but by having the autograph book, you have happy memories of your ancesters. That is so cool.

My Fun Monday is shared too, I hope you can stop by and read it, if you haven't already --since I'm just now going through the Mr. Linky's at Mollys before I get to my own comments to read who has visited!! Take care, have a great day. [PS --you have to scroll below my 'walk in the park' photos to reach my F M entry!!]

It is wonderful that you have the stuff from your grandmother.

I don't know how it happened, but you lost me with the move. Damn Bloglines.

I think I am finally going to launch my new site this week. It hasn't been difficult - I just lost interest for a while.

I loved your post. Your Granny is terrific. I also love family history. Each summer I take our 12 grandchildren and their parents on a family history outing (we go back 6 generations in the area where we live). They look forward to it and I love preparing for it.
Have a great week.

AWESOME! I love old photographs and such too. I have all of my grandmother's old postcards that people have sent. One is an old record! One is my Uncle's letter home from WWII. Love that stuff!
